Are you practical, reliable, and proud of creating environments where people can thrive?

At Darras Hall Primary School, we are looking for a dedicated and proactive Caretaker to become an essential part of our school community.

This is more than a maintenance role - it’s an opportunity to help create a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment where children can learn and flourish every day.

About the Role

As our Caretaker, you will play a vital role in the smooth day-to-day running of the school site. From carrying out repairs and maintaining facilities to ensuring the school remains safe, clean, and ready for learning, your contribution will make a real difference to pupils, staff, and visitors alike.

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, takes initiative, and enjoys working as part of a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and DIY repairs efficiently and safely

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and site safety across the school grounds

• Monitor and manage site equipment, supplies, and stock levels

• Support the setup of school events and activities

• Undertake porterage duties, including moving furniture and equipment

• Ensure outdoor areas are safe, tidy, and well maintained

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong practical DIY and maintenance skills
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Physical capability to undertake lifting, carrying, bending, and ladder work as required
  • A commitment to maintaining a safe and positive school environment

Working Pattern & Flexibility

The role operates on a split-shift pattern, and we are committed to being as flexible as possible within these hours. We welcome conversations with interested candidates about how the working arrangements may suit them. We are also open to this role being covered by two individuals on a part time basis.

Typical Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 7:15am – 9:30am then 1:00pm – 6:00pm (5:45pm on Friday)
  • Typical split shifts between 0715 and 0930 and 1300 and 1800

Flexibility is important as occasionally you will be required to support:

  • Parents’ evenings
  • Governing body meetings
  • School events and functions
  • School lettings (additional hours payments available)
