There are two papers to assess spelling, punctuation and grammar. Firstly, a SPAG Paper containing questions covering all aspects of punctuation and grammar. Secondly, a 20 word spelling test. Children have 45 minutes to complete the SPAG Paper and there is no time limit for the spelling test. Each year the 'pass mark' changes, the children's spelling score is combined with their SPAG Paper score to determine if they have reached the expected standard. In 2018, 38 marks out of a possible 70 marks were required to meet the expected standard.
