We started this half term with a week looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We identified and named the 2D and 3D shapes, looked at the properties of 3D shapes to help us describe them and then completed shape hunts and sorting activities.
We then moved back to our 'Addition and Subtraction' unit, beginning with subtraction. We looked at how to use the part whole model and created subtraction calculations to match various representations. We also used number lines to find missing parts. We then introduced the 'fact family' where children were able to create up to 8 calculations from one part whole model.
We used our new skills to do some problem solving and reasoning too, emphasising our mathematical vocabulary and having lots of discussion!
