We started off our term looking at the text 'The Emperor's Egg. We began by looking at the front cover of the book and making predictions about what we thought the book would be about.
We discussed the terms 'fiction' and 'non-fiction' and thought about whether our new book would be fiction or non-fiction.
We also clarified some words from the book and used them in sentences and in context to ensure we fully understood what they meant. We then organised them into group of nouns, adjectives and verbs.
We listened carefully to the book and recalled as many facts about Emperor penguins as we could afterwards.
We then organised pictures in order and wrote captions to explain the life cycle of an Emperor penguin.
We then looked carefully at a report about penguins, annotating it and identifying the main features of a report.
Keeping this in mind, we organised our facts into sections using a boxing up method, before writing our own reports all about penguins.
