Design Technology

In the Foundation Stage children use and explore a variety of materials, tools
and fixing techniques with adult support and also during self-initiated play.
Children have the opportunity to experiment with design using “found
materials” such as cardboard, construction sets or objects found in the outdoor
classroom.
In key Stages 1 and 2, children gain DT experience using a range of
technology kits including those with gears, pulleys and motors. In addition,
they are encouraged to make their own design plans, follow the plans of
others and find solutions to given problems or scenarios. Much of this work is
covered through a cross-curricular approach.
